A congress aimed at professionals from the MICE industry entitled MCE CEE took place February 13-15 in Prague. The specialist congress, co-organized by Europecongress and CTE Tourism, was held at the five-star Corinthia Hotel. Exhibitors from Central and Eastern Europe, buyers with interest in organising MICE events in these destinations, and various speakers gathered for this event, which resulted in an intense three-day business meeting. The Czech Convention Bureau was one of the main partners of the event.

Similarly oriented events took place in 2008 in Dubrovnik, Croatia and in Istanbul in 2009 – it was the ECECIBT Trade Fair. The publisher MICE CEE with its B2B magazines for meetings industry MICE CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE, which supports and promotes these events, was the main media partner of the congress.

Overall, the remarkably organised and successful congress hosted approximately 200 participants – hosted buyers interested in central and Eastern Europe and service providers from venues, congress centres, luxury hotels and hotel chains with facilities suitable for congresses, conferences and various events including Hilton, Majestic Plaza, Corinthia, Accor, Crowne Plaza, Boscolo Hotels, Marriott, Kempinski, and the Prague Convention Bureau as well as a number of DMC and PCO agencies.

The five-star Corinthia Hotel, conveniently located in the centre of Prague and offering great views of the city, provided top-quality infrastructure for the event, thus proving that delegates can expect high quality and professional services in the Czech Republic’s capital. The quality of food was astonishing – both during the gala dinner and the business lunches, which easily surpassed even West European standards. It was obvious how some of the invited delegates – buyers – who visited Prague for the first time banished their preconceptions about Eastern Europe and were totally in awe of Prague.

The programme with invited speakers provided information about destination marketing, event management, and the latest international trends, statistics and research in the field of congress and conference organisation.

Ilan Geva, founder of the US company Ilan Geva & Friends and an international expert on branding, chaired the congress. Johanna Fischer, managing director of TMF from Germany presented statistical data, while Rebecca Sauders from Sustainable Events Ltd. dealt with the issue of ecological (sustainable) meetings. Zuzana Adamson, publisher of the B2B magazines MICE CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE, spoke about the situation in the meetings industry in Central and Eastern European countries, and Marco Monfilis, an expert on branding for Fortune 500 companies, presented marketing and branding strategies.
