LANGUAGE

The official language is Slovene (South Slavic language group). In the ethnically mixed regions alongside Hungarian and Italian borders, Hungarian and Italian are also official languages. Apart from Slovene, the majority of Slovenes speak Croatian, English and German (Eurobarometer).

SMOKING

Smoking is prohibited in all closed public and work premises according to the new anti-smoking law (in force since August 2007).

 

Companies can be fined between 2,000 and 33,000 euros for violations, sole traders between 800 and 4,000 euros and the responsible person in a company from 400 to 1,000 euros.

An indiviudual who breaches the smoking ban must pay a penalty of 125 euros.
