In Ostrov, a small city in the Karlovy Vary Region, we can meet a painter who retains the personality of the Renaissance Adas Hrbek. Aside from painting, he is also known for his gardening, where he produces medicinal plants. He is a songwriter and singer, writer and teacher, and nature has served as his great inspiration since childhood.

At primary school, he became a student of Jiří Zavoral – painter, woodcarver, photographer, philosopher, and a lovely man. Arts and crafts in his family was passed down from grandparents to children: calligraphy and decorative letters, painting on typical Czech porcelain, and woodcarving. The artist’s grandmother was a big friend of the famous Czech painter Jan Zrzavý.

Adas Hrbek is also engaged in drawing and painting. In his creative period, we can find inspiration from Africa – for example a painting called Conflict of Jaguars or Maasai Lady;

philosophical questions coming from reading the famous book The Da Vinci Code – a painting entitled Saint Graal; from animals and natural landscapes.

Aside from his art activities, he supports sick children by organising auctions of his paintings for their benefit. His paintings decorate interiors and exteriors from wine caves in Moravia, castles and horse stables in Chodova Plana and Fojtov to children’s schools, and many clubs and venues.

In 2012, Adas Hrbek entered the register of artists in the international competition in Prague’s DOX Gallery. Since September 2014, he is the co-author of the Children Drawing With Chalk project. Not only that, but he teaches children in Ostrov, as well as putting on creative events with a national scope.

For example in 2015 he was the key player and co-author of the largest chalk-painted heart in the world, which was 3,300 square metres and saw 700 people participate in the drawing. In 2016, Adas Hrbek was the co-author of the largest chalk-painted angel, which extended over 3,400 square metres which was recorded in the city of Pelhřimov. This event brought together about 1,000 participants.

In 2017, Adas Hrbek was awarded the prize Ď of the Karlovy Vary Region for an auction of paintings, the proceeds of which benefited sick children. In 2021, he wrote a book, Rebirth, and since 2021, he has worked on a collection entitled God Is a Woman.
