The number of tourists visiting the Czech Republic reached an all-time high in 2019, with nearly 22 million people staying in collective accommodation establishments, according to figures released by the Czech Statistical Office (CSU).

This represents roughly twice the size of the country’s overall population of 10.6 million and an increase of 3.5% (740,000 people) compared to 2018. More than half of those 22 million tourists came from within the Czech Republic as the number of domestic guests exceeded the number of foreign guests by around 220,000.

Altogether, tourists spent more than 57 million nights in the country, on average staying for 2.8 nights per person. Prague was the city they visited the most.

As in previous years, there were more visitors from Germany (2 million arrivals) than anywhere else, ahead of Slovakia (750,000), Poland (about 673,000) and China (612,048). Next came the USA, Russia, the UK, Italy, South Korea and Ukraine.
